Staying Organized and Outsourcing What You Are Not Good At
▶TLDR
- Get the process out of your head and into a system so it can be handed off.
- Outsource the buckets you are worst at or hate most, not random tasks.
- Record Looms for repeat work so someone else can pick it up without you.
On That Entrepreneur Life, Andrew Lees and Clint McPherson and I talked about two things that quietly hold owners back: staying organized, and outsourcing the work you are not good at.
Most owners try to do it all and stay busy instead of organized. The fix is getting the work out of your head and handing off the parts that are not yours to do.
Get organized by writing it down
Organization is not about a fancier app. It is about the work living somewhere other than your head. I record Looms for anything I do more than once, then bucket the tasks by type. Once it is written down, you can see what is on your plate and what can move.
That clarity is what makes the next step possible. You cannot hand off a process you have never spelled out.
Outsource your weak spots
Do not outsource random tasks. Outsource the buckets you are worst at or dread most, because those are the ones dragging on your time and your energy. Hire against the most painful bucket first. There is no unicorn assistant who does everything, so stop waiting for one.
When you hand off the work that is not yours, you get back the time to do the work only you can do. I got into protecting that time on how to time-block to protect your focus and the solo journey on the solopreneur success cycle.
