Life is short

May 20, 2024

This week's email is going to be short and to the point.

To serve as a reminder for those who might need to hear something like this now.

You are going to die. Way sooner than you expect. Time will continue to pass quickly and your perpetual search for "the next thing" will rob you of the joy you are living today.

I know it's hard. I forget this for months at a time. I frequently get lost in the chase for the next $10,000 or launch I am pursuing. Sometimes I blink and a year has passed.

I was flying to Tulum yesterday and shuffling back through my photos from the past 18 months. I needed to flag some photos and short videos for the new social media team I hired. I starred 50+ images of my time in Africa, Budapest, Austria, El Salvador, Peru, and various other countries.

I had a tough realization that some of these memories were not lived. They passed me by as I was pointing my phone towards whatever looked cool and seeking the next thing to shoot. How much of my travel has been ignored? The 20+ countries and 100s of cities. But where was my mind? How many beautiful things did I not see? How many heart filling or breathtaking moments did I skip? As I scrolled through my phone's memories I can tell you it was a lot.

I don't have an answer to any of this. My only suggestion is to stay in the moment as much as you can. Choose your path and then spend time in those moments, while they're happening, and appreciate them. Take some deep breaths and be fucking thankful you get to even participate in this life. It's a gift.

Life is short. Act like it.
